Q&A: Recommended Book on the Philosophy of Science
Recommended Book on the Philosophy of Science
Question
Hello Rabbi Michi,
I’m interested in beginning to study the topic of the philosophy of science (what deserves to be called a “scientific theory” and what does not), both because I’ve been reading psychoanalytic literature and because, after hearing your philosophical criticisms of the field, I’m concerned that I don’t have the tools to decide which theory is good and which is not. Which book would you recommend I start with?
(I’d also be happy if you could explain why you recommend it.)
Thank you
Answer
There are Open University books called Introduction to the Philosophy of Science. It’s worth starting there. It is lucid and clear, and it provides the basic tools in a way that is accessible to any reader.
