I’m trying to get into online translation, and for that purpose I’m building a portfolio. I have an opportunity to translate an American TV series for an Israeli site that lets people watch series for free. In this case I’m responsible for obtaining the files of the series in question; they’re available on one of the English-language pirate sites. The series went off the air several years ago. It may be possible to watch it privately in a legal paid way, but without Hebrew subtitles. Does my initiative to translate and upload the series for viewers in Israel involve copyright infringement or some form of theft? Thanks in advance.
