Q&A: A Show That Also Runs on the Sabbath
A Show That Also Runs on the Sabbath
Question
Hello, is it permitted to order tickets for a show that also runs on the Sabbath?
Answer
In my opinion, there is no halakhic prohibition in this.
Discussion on Answer
In my opinion, no. There may perhaps be room to discuss a situation where it is necessary to begin the preparations during the Sabbath, and even there, in my opinion, there is not necessarily any prohibition. (It is not being done for you, and it would have been done even without you.)
Thank you very much.
Before you ask about a show, ask about a movie (for the masses who do not live on Shakespeare): is it permitted to go to Yes Planet in Jerusalem, which is open on the Sabbath, when there is an alternative of going to Cinema City, which is closed on it? And what about when the reality is known that at Cinema City the screens are poor and the viewing experience is inferior to that at Planet? Would you call that an alternative? Rather, common opinion might be that this is praise that is not evident… and this requires further analysis.
Gil — greetings,
The best thing is to go to the tish of “Film-Vizhnitz”; a projecting experience unlike anything at either Yes Planet or Cinema City together. And as it is written: “He took them to Saret every two days” 🙂

Is there a problem with going to a show two hours after the Sabbath ends when it may be that the preparations began on the Sabbath?
