Q&A: Birth Control
Birth Control
Question
Hello,
We are a newly married couple with no children, and we would like to prevent pregnancy for a while without relying on pills or devices.
Is it permissible to have full marital relations (assuming this is physically possible) without ejaculation during intercourse, even though ejaculation might occur involuntarily during sleep, or is that also considered wasting seed?
Answer
I’m not sure I understand the question.
First, there is the commandment of procreation, which requires good reasons in order to avoid fulfilling it.
Second, I don’t see how ejaculation would be avoided. It does not sound realistic to me.
Third, I do not know what the causal connection is between such an act and ejaculation during sleep. If that is a result of your actions, then it is not involuntary. (It is worse than deliberately putting oneself into a situation of compulsion.)
In any case, relations can be conducted during “safe” times. Of course this is not airtight, but at most there is a small chance that you will have children. There are greater “disasters” than that.
