Q&A: Self-Imposed Prohibition
Self-Imposed Prohibition
Question
With God’s help,
forgive me, I only just now read the Rabbi’s column on a litigant’s admission. Is it possible to explain, based on the understanding of “it is in his power,” the law of self-imposed prohibition (“shavya anafshei chatikha de-isura”) in the claim of an “open entrance,” as Rashi understands the passage in Ketubot 9a? (If I am not mistaken, the Ketzot HaChoshen itself addresses this point at the end of its discussion there, though very briefly.)
Thank you very much, and more power to you!
Answer
Absolutely. See my Ketubot lectures on the law of self-imposed prohibition.
Discussion on Answer
Right. It’s there, in lectures 39-40: https://onedrive.live.com/?authkey=%21AKD%5Fp9E1E5G2ijM&id=395204EC53F39CE0%214356&cid=395204EC53F39CE0
With God’s help,
I couldn’t find a lecture by the Rabbi on the topic; the Ketubot lectures I found are on the second chapter.
