Q&A: Prayer on Zoom
Prayer on Zoom
Question
Is there any value in praying with a quorum on Zoom? Is it possible to say matters of sanctity? I’m asking about two cases: 1) when there is a quorum of people who are physically together, and I join them by Zoom. 2) when there are ten people in different places joining through Zoom.
Answer
I wrote here in the past that, in my opinion, a Zoom quorum is preferable from the outset to “balcony quorums.” In a world in which the internet is part of our lives, just as there is a virtual site (= place), there is no reason there cannot be a joining together of people who are together in the same "site." As opposed to a balcony quorum, which is a joining together in the physical world, and here the principles of the Shulchan Arukh regarding combining people into a quorum apply.
Now I found it here (maybe there’s another place too?…): https://mikyab.net/%D7%A9%D7%95%D7%AA/%D7%9E%D7%A0%D7%99%D7%9F-%D7%A7%D7%95%D7%A8%D7%95%D7%A0%D7%94
I think this applies to both cases. In the linked lesson there I brought examples for this from the prohibition of "do not form factions."

But I don’t have the password or the rest of the phone numbers. Could you send them to me?
Are you on planet Earth? Is this a troll, or can you clarify what exactly you want from me.
Hi Rabbi Michael, this is Jonathan. Could I get the Zoom link please?
