Q&A: Hello Rabbi
Hello Rabbi
Question
Hello Rabbi, a question about yeshiva-style conceptual learning. Is it correct to associate, to some extent, the Brisker method with the Maimonidean approach, according to which doing God's will is knowing the truth, and therefore the practical difference is only the concrete case in which that is realized? Thank you
(p.s. although they may define the truth differently, because while Maimonides went into detail explaining the reasons for the commandments in order to know God through them, that doesn’t interest them, and the very knowledge of what God said is what matters).
Answer
In that sense, perhaps yes. Although for Maimonides the truth being discussed is philosophical-theological truth, and the Briskers do not deal with that.
