Q&A: Completing the Talmud
Completing the Talmud
Question
Hello and blessings.
There is a memorial gathering for my grandfather this week, and they will be holding a completion of the Talmud. I have part of a tractate that I didn’t manage to finish. Is it still possible to hold a completion of the Talmud anyway?
And would the ruling change if it were a complete tractate?
Answer
If you did not finish the Talmud, then it is not a completion of the Talmud. But even if they hold such a completion, I do not see any prohibition in it. All the more so since if they finished all the other tractates, that too counts as a completion, and there is no practical difference between one completion and another. But the best thing is to try to finish what you undertook, even if quickly and by skimming, before the completion.
Discussion on Answer
Should read: completion of the Talmud?
If someone on this holy site can help me finish, I’d be happy.
I’m missing in tractate Chullin from 19b to 42b by this coming Tuesday.
May you merit commandments.
