Q&A: An Answer to His Honor’s Question?
An Answer to His Honor’s Question?
Question
Hello Rabbi Michi,
Some time ago, in a fascinating article, you argued that no value can be found that we learn from the Hebrew Bible (Tanakh). You challenged your readers to try to find one, and they were unsuccessful. I think I found one.
The Torah testifies about Moses that he was more humble than any other person. We can see that Moses got angry more than once in the Torah, and from here one can learn about the trait of humility—that it does not mean being a spineless weakling, as we might have thought were it not for the Torah. I admit that in a more positive sense it is harder for me to define what exactly we learn, but by way of negation it does teach us, in my opinion, what humility is not.
Answer
I think this too fits in with what you already thought in advance. If it hadn’t fit, you would have found explanations to reconcile it.
