Q&A: Media Conduct
Media Conduct
Question
Hello.
I’m trying to understand why it really seems that the media (most of it, apparently) condemns the Jewish rioters more than the Arab rioters.
Why does it focus its attack against the Jews?
I was horrified by the lynching that took place in Bat Yam.
I think it absolutely should have been condemned. But why suppress the fact—or tone down the flames—regarding the lynchings carried out against Jews?
The question is whether this stems from an underlying assumption claiming that the Arab minority is oppressed here. Is there some kind of empathy toward the other side because of that underlying assumption?
That is the charitable point I manage to grant those Jews who criticize their own people. I don’t assume that all this is motivated by injustice done to them by Jews.
And honestly? After that assumption, I wonder whether there is any counterargument to that underlying assumption (or to its implications), because there is a certain truth to it…
It’s a shame someone like you doesn’t have Twitter; I’m sure you would do excellent public advocacy. (Not necessarily in favor of either side.)
By the way, I’m religious and right-wing.
Thank you.
Answer
Hello. It’s quite clear that beyond left-wing ideology and interests (to harm the image of the Right), there is also identification with Jews and an expectation that they should be better. But you are right that the attitude is not equal.
