Q&A: The Eviction of the Families in Sheikh Jarrah
The Eviction of the Families in Sheikh Jarrah
Question
Hello and greetings to the honored Rabbi Dr.,
I saw that there is a global uproar surrounding the eviction of the families in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.
I saw that there is global media distortion surrounding incidents that happened (for example, the case of the driver who ran over a Palestinian after the latter attacked his car with stones), and perhaps also surrounding the case above (Sheikh Jarrah).
I saw that there are many social influencers on a global scale (some of whom were born in the State of Israel and whose nationality is Jewish) who are speaking out against Israel.
I saw that there are protests among educated people (at universities like Tel Aviv and Ben-Gurion) — and this gives some sense that there is a logical basis behind their positions.
After that introduction, my question is: is the foundation (the historical together with the logical one) on which their agenda stands actually reasonable?
The question is even broader:
Does the fact that there are evidently many educated people who choose a left-wing agenda give their positions stronger validity? (Or perhaps they thought this about their lecturers, and therefore continued with their ideology)
Thank you very much
Answer
No. See column 247, which deals with disputes among colleagues and the question of whether that is supposed to affect me. There are other columns as well.
There are arguments in favor of every position, and there are also different evaluative value assumptions. Value assumptions are not connected to intelligence, and unfortunately in these areas there is a major influence from fashion and various trends.
