Q&A: Several Short Questions
Several Short Questions
Question
Hello Rabbi.
A. I read in a book on faith that there is proof for the truth of Judaism in the fact that many prophecies written in the Hebrew Bible (Tanakh) were fulfilled. In the Rabbi’s opinion, can that be evidence? After all, any prophecy can be interpreted in infinitely many ways.
B. I would be glad to know where the Rabbi wrote about his approach to LGBT people, and also where the Rabbi elaborated on his view regarding pluralism, relativism, etc.
C. What, in the Rabbi’s opinion, are the basic books for studying faith?
D. Does a person need to have a primary rabbi? If not, I would appreciate a response to the guidance of the Sages: “Make for yourself a rabbi.”
Answer
A. Regarding the prophecies, I’m fairly reserved about this precisely because of what you wrote—that they can be interpreted in several different ways. But it does carry some weight. There are long threads about this, mainly with Copenhagen, Gil, and M, but for some reason I can’t find them right now. Search the site.
What I did find is here:

B. Regarding tolerance and pluralism, there is an article of mine and some other discussions. Search the site. There is an interview on the “Kamocha” website on the matter of LGBT people.
C. In my opinion, there aren’t any. I deny the existence of such a field altogether, and certainly the idea of studying such a field. If there’s something that speaks to you, study it.
D. If you find someone who seems worthy to you, that is definitely desirable.
It’s clear that you aren’t familiar with the site, since these matters have been discussed here very extensively, and also in my trilogy of books. You can search the site and/or read the trilogy.
