Q&A: Damage That Is Not Visible
Damage That Is Not Visible
Question
Damage that is not visible is exempt under human law.
1) Is this exemption for damage that is not visible only regarding another person’s property, or also regarding another person’s body? (I simply haven’t learned this topic well, and unfortunately I’m missing the basic background knowledge.)
2) Damage that is detectable only with today’s microscopes—is that considered visible damage or non-visible damage? Why?
Answer
You need to learn the topic. Damage that is not visible, according to most opinions (and some say according to all of them), is halakhic / of Jewish law damage—when you render something impure or prohibit it. We’re not talking about something microscopic that cannot be seen with the naked eye.
