Q&A: Recommendations
Recommendations
Question
Hello Rabbi,
This is less of a question and more of a request for recommendations.
I really enjoyed your books and connected with the style of thinking.
At the same time, I have only very basic knowledge—really even less than that—of philosophy. My desire is to get more exposure to philosophical thinking, so I’d appreciate recommendations on how to approach the foundational writings.
Second—and this is more important to me right now—regarding the question of God’s existence: I’d like to get a broad picture of the philosophical and scientific arguments (not just unsupported positions) from the different sides. The reason is that in order to move in a direction—by reaching probability rather than certainty, of course—I think it would be right for me to examine the matter in depth. Although in your books you present arguments from the different sides, again, I would like to delve into them more deeply.
I’d be happy for reading recommendations.
Thank you very much!
Answer
Hello,
Unfortunately I don’t have any recommendations. Just read and let yourself roll along according to your taste and interest.
On the matter of faith as well, all I can do is refer you to my book, The First Existent. I don’t have any other reading recommendation. In any case, almost all the worthwhile material on this issue is not in Hebrew, and usually it is not Jewish either (but rather Christian). Maybe the sages of the site will be able to add something.
Hello Aharon, you can try the Open University books; I think you’ll find satisfaction in them.
