Q&A: Parapsychology and Intuition
Parapsychology and Intuition
Question
Hello Rabbi,
In the lecture series, the Rabbi said that in parapsychology there is one study with strong significance and validity, regarding “the feeling that someone is looking at you.” I couldn’t find it, and I’d be glad if the Rabbi could point me to a link or source.
Another question on a different topic: the Rabbi said that therapists referred people with OCD to him in order to help them. I think there is a possibility (both from my own experience treating people with OCD, and regarding myself) to treat mental disorders through philosophy. Even though that is not its primary domain, it can be used to dismantle faulty patterns of thought that underlie a considerable part of these disorders. Does the Rabbi happen to know anything about this topic?
Also, if I may ask, in what way did the Rabbi help them? By what method?
Thank you very much,
Or
Answer
I don’t remember the source. I think these were Rhine’s experiments in the 1930s of the previous century.
I’m not familiar with it, although it sounds very logical to me. I didn’t treat them; I only answered questions about faith and Jewish law that were obsessively troubling them. The one who referred them was a psychologist, a friend of mine, and he treated them psychologically.
Discussion on Answer
I think that’s what I knew. But it doesn’t deal with the feeling that someone is looking at you. Maybe it was a different study.
And the study about the feeling that someone is looking at you—do you have a source for it? Just interested.
Thanks, good evening.
Your question reminded me that I once saw something like that, but I don’t remember where.
I understand, thank you.
Have a peaceful Sabbath.
I understand, thank you.
As for Rhine: they weren’t able to replicate his studies, and they pointed to serious flaws in his research.
