Is there any book that the Rabbi recommends in order to develop one’s thinking in understanding the laws of the Sabbath (purposeful labor, an inevitable result, an act done without intent, etc.)—not hairsplitting pilpul in the air, but also not just dry law?

I once saw, in the book Orchot Shabbat, I believe volume 3, a section that deals quite well with the principles of purposeful labor and the foundations of the laws of the Sabbath.
