Q&A: Does the Holy One, blessed be He, care about details?
Does the Holy One, blessed be He, care about details?
Question
How are we supposed to understand that in Jewish ritual practice (Jewish law) there are so many details, and so much ink has been spilled on discussions that seemingly are not important and perhaps are even trivial? Why would the Holy One, blessed be He, care whether I put on the right shoe first or the left one? Why would the Holy One, blessed be He, care whether I walk four cubits this way and not that way? It sounds absurd. I never really asked myself this before, and now I’m genuinely wondering. Why does He care about all these details?!?
Answer
The Torah contains laws, and those laws are interpreted through the Oral Torah. The Holy One, blessed be He, apparently does care about the observance of Jewish law, since He gave it to us. The details are a result of interpretation.
And in general, the Holy One’s areas of interest are not really clear to me, nor are they really accessible to discussion.
Rabbi, but it depends a lot on when that halakhic meticulousness developed in the Oral Torah. Don’t you think?
because if we look at the Torah in a less meticulous way, EA’s question becomes even stronger.
