Q&A: The Purpose of Creating the World Outside the World?
The Purpose of Creating the World Outside the World?
Question
Hello,
You said that the purpose of creating the world has to be outside the world. I didn’t understand why. Why isn’t it possible to say a priori that God wanted to createa world so that people would reach a state of happiness but wanted them to reach it through their own effort alone so that they would not eat the bread of shame?
Can you elaborate a bit on what your argument was?
Answer
I’ve explained this several times. Briefly, it does not seem plausible to me that the purpose of creation is connected to something within it. If the purpose is to benefit people, then there is also the option not to create them, and then there would be no need to benefit anyone. It is like when someone creates a washing machine: the purpose is not for the machine’s sake, but for the one who made it, or for something outside it.
