Q&A: God’s Intervention in the World
God’s Intervention in the World
Question
Good afternoon!
In connection with the Rabbi’s article—the wording of Ran in the sixth homily: “And sometimes events arise in distant places and on faraway islands, so that Israel will be stirred to repentance, and they will see and fear lest the calamity reach them; and when they are not chastened by what happens to others, the calamity continues on its way, drawing ever nearer and nearer.
There is no doubt that one who sees all these troubles—which are in truth warnings from the blessed God—and still persists in the path he has taken, is like one who commits a transgression after having been warned, and from that point onward has rendered himself liable to death.”
What is the Rabbi’s opinion?
Answer
I don’t know which article you mean, but if you’re referring to a specific article, it would be best to post the question there as a comment on that article.
My view is that the Holy One, blessed be He, is not involved in the world, and therefore the question does not arise in the first place.
