Q&A: Providence
Providence
Question
Hello.
From what I understand, your view is that there is no active providence over the world.
My question is: after all, the Holy One, blessed be He, created the world, and He did so for a certain purpose. I understand that part of that purpose (even if it is not the ultimate purpose) is that the Jewish people would receive the Torah.
Suppose someone were to come along with both the ability and the desire to completely destroy the Jewish people, or to cause the Torah to be entirely forgotten—would it not be reasonable that the Holy One, blessed be He, would intervene? Since He created the world, it is clear to me that He has the ability to control nature, and in the cases above it is clear to me that He would want to do so.
I would be glad to hear your opinion
Answer
That is בהחלט reasonable. I wrote that sporadic involvement can exist in the ordinary course of events as well, and certainly in such extreme situations.
