Q&A: Fatalities and Statistics
Fatalities and Statistics
Question
Honorable Rabbi, in the latest round of fighting, 2 non-Jews were killed. What is the statistical probability that, out of the several million people now in the State of Israel, only gentiles would be killed? Thank you.
Answer
This is a more complicated calculation than simply comparing all the Jews to all the gentiles in Israel. In the Gaza border region there are non-Jewish workers, and many Jews from there traveled to central Israel, and the area protected by the Iron Dome also did not include buildings under construction. Beyond that, did you check in the other operations how many gentiles and Jews were killed? What was the distribution? In short, you won’t get very far with these considerations. You’re welcome. 🙂
