Hello. I read your book “The Science of Freedom” with great interest. Very fascinating. I wanted to ask: is the mechanism for human free choice presented in the book (the hiker analogy, etc.) based on the mechanism of free choice and the forces operating in the human soul that Maimonides describes in his books?
Answer
1. I didn’t speak about a mechanism, because there is no mechanism of choice. There is a picture within which free choice takes place (the outline/topographical map).
2. I don’t know what Maimonides’ mechanism is. As I said, in my view there is no such thing.
3. I don’t think there are different pictures. Anyone who speaks about free choice is speaking about what I described. As I understand it, and as I also explained, there is nothing else. So even if someone did not describe it this way, this is still the description of his view. Otherwise, he is not talking about free choice.
