I once came across a video claiming that Ezra the Scribe instituted that the Jewish religion follows the mother, because he went up to Jerusalem and saw that many of them were marrying foreign women, Hebrew was being forgotten, and so on. And before his time, the people of Israel would marry foreign women even without converting them, and the child would still be considered Jewish. Is that true? Thank you very much, with appreciation.
