Entering a Church
Question
Hello, honorable Rabbi,
I wanted to ask whether it is permissible to enter a church in order to be impressed by the beauty of its construction.
For example, in Barcelona there is Gaudí’s church, which is an architectural structure with very unique architecture.
The purpose of such a visit would be only to appreciate the beauty, nothing more.
Is this permitted?
Answer
It is forbidden to derive benefit from and be impressed by the beauty of idolatry. See an overview here: https://www.yeshiva.org.il/midrash/36891
