Q&A: Who Has Given of His Wisdom to Flesh and Blood
Who Has Given of His Wisdom to Flesh and Blood
Question
In your opinion, over whom nowadays can one recite the blessing “Who has given of His wisdom to flesh and blood”? (Meaning the blessing recited over sages of the nations of the world, of course.)
Answer
Someone who is known in the world for his wisdom.
Discussion on Answer
I don’t think so. In my opinion that was mostly public relations. I really wasn’t impressed by his wisdom. I can’t think of anyone right now. Nobel Prize laureates might be a reasonable yardstick, although it’s hard to separate the question of public relations from each person’s actual wisdom. Arafat, for example. 🙂
Stephen Hawking is not known in the world for his wisdom about as much as Moses our teacher is known in the world as our teacher.
Edward Witten, for those who know. But he isn’t all that famous worldwide.
Rabbi, have you heard of Nathan Seiberg?
No
Specific people you know of?
For example, could one have recited it over Stephen Hawking?
