Q&A: Islam
Islam
Question
Hello Rabbi!
I am a Muslim (I live in Jerusalem). According to the religion of Israel, will a Muslim receive reward for his deeds, which he does for the honor of God, even if (as you believe) He did not command them?
Answer
Morality is an obligation for everyone, regardless of commandment or Judaism. Therefore every person, of any religion, is obligated to behave morally. By contrast, observance of halakhic commandments that are not connected to morality obligates only Jews, and for others it has no value. That is regarding the value of the act itself. As for the reward you will or will not receive—I am not worthy to say. I do not understand reward and what happens in the World to Come, and in my opinion no one understands, even if he tells you that he does.
Discussion on Answer
There is no such thing as “Judaism’s view.” If people ask me, I answer with my own view.
What about the seven Noahide commandments?
With regard to the seven Noahide commandments, they were indeed commanded in them. So what is the question?
The view of the Torah of Judaism
Maimonides, Terumot 3:9: “Even though gentiles are not obligated in the commandments, if they fulfill some of them, they receive some reward for them.”
Rabbi, he is asking you what Judaism’s view is, not what your own view is.
What about the words of Maimonides, no?
