Q&A: Taxes
Taxes
Question
Hello Rabbi.
Is it ever permitted to falsify income data in order to pay less in taxes and the like (daycare, municipal property tax, etc.)?
Thank you.
Answer
Absolutely not. Although with the current coalition it’s already hard to justify that.
Discussion on Answer
When the authority that controls the money (the government) spends it in an improper way, it is doubtful whether the principle of "the law of the kingdom is the law" applies to them. The halakhic decisors wrote that when the government acts in a manner of outright extortion, then "the law of the kingdom is the law" no longer applies.
Suddenly the Rabbi is Haredi.
I always was.
Won’t anyone who has some kind of claim whatsoever (even a justified one) just make the above argument?
Anyone can argue anything. So what? I’m saying what I think, and if others make a mistake, then they make a mistake.
How is the coalition connected to Jewish law?
