France. I'm confused.
Question
France confuses me.
Maybe the Rabbi can help me get things straight in my head.
There’s a problem there with the Arabs, I understood they’re 6% of the population.
Here it’s more than 20%.
So why is it more of a problem there than here?
Besides that, they warned about the danger to the Jews because the far right might come to power — oy gevalt.
I was filled with compassion for our brothers in France and offered a prayer that they wouldn’t come to power, and indeed God heard the prayer and the left came to power.
Now they’re shouting that this is a danger to the Jews too — oy gevalt.
So what’s the danger there — the right? The left?
Answer
The danger here is greater than there, but people are afraid of trends, and over there the trend is upward. Beyond that, the feeling is that the government there does not protect them. The outcries about the left and the right are not coming from the same people. Some are afraid of these and some of those, and besides, there’s no contradiction. The extremists on both sides frighten them.
