Q&A: The Kuzari Proof
The Kuzari Proof
Question
The Rabbi often discusses proving God (in the philosophical sense) in a logical way. Is there a way to prove the specifically Jewish God? I saw that some people cast doubt on the Kuzari’s argument from the revelation at Sinai.
Answer
That certainly does not belong to the realm of philosophical arguments. It is a historical argument, and it is judged like historical arguments. In The First Cause I explained that the Kuzari argument by itself is not really convincing, but taken together with the broader overall picture there, whose foundation is the philosophical God, it does sound reasonable.
Discussion on Answer
Absolutely. The principle of causality also sounds reasonable to me, and I base my life on it.
“Sounds reasonable” is a reasonable enough claim to base your whole life on?
