Q&A: The Relationship Between Logic and Physics
The Relationship Between Logic and Physics
Question
Is logic directly influenced by the laws of physics and by reality itself? In other words, is logic a product of reality, or is it reasonable to assume that it is not?
For example: the fact that it is impossible to walk south and north at the same time stems from the fact that this is simply how reality is. So perhaps in other realities there are also completely different logics? I know that the Rabbi’s view is that logic is correct in every reality. I did not understand how that is more reasonable than the opposite claim. Thank you.
Answer
If you need an explanation for that, you won’t find one. Try to imagine a world with different physics—you can. Try to imagine a world with different logic—you can’t. There have been many discussions about this here on the site.
