Q&A: Who Said the Laws of Logic Apply to Reality?
Who Said the Laws of Logic Apply to Reality?
Question
Hello Rabbi,
The cosmological argument claims that things cannot come into being without a cause, and you also elaborate on the principle of causality and its being a foundation for scientific thinking, etc.
I wanted to ask: why should we accept in the first place that the laws of logic have validity in reality? Aren’t there phenomena in the world or scientific discoveries that contradict the laws of logic? What gives the laws of logic, which are a product of our intellect, the validity or authority to determine what is likely to occur in reality and what is not?
Thank you very much
Answer
Search here on the site for “The Laws of Logic.” In particular, see the article on quantum theory and belief in contradictions.
