Q&A: Biblical Criticism
Biblical Criticism
Question
What is your honor's opinion on biblical criticism?
Answer
My opinion is that this is an academic field that many people engage in. My opinion is that it deals with the Bible. And above all, my opinion is that this question is far too general for me to address.
Discussion on Answer
I recommend reading Prof. Yoel Elitzur's article, "Yoel Elitzur – On Fashions in the Study of the History of Israel."
Besides that, he has many other nice articles.
While we're at it, I'd also like to ask the Rabbi's opinion on "criticism" in general, and if I may, maybe also a more general question about reality as such (the Rabbi can choose whichever aspect of it comes to mind). I'm eagerly awaiting long, well-reasoned answers.
Regarding the Documentary Hypothesis, this is a wonderful article by Dr. Yoel Bin-Nun that Rabbi Michi referred me to.
The truth is that there isn't a good alternative there, but he shows that the approach that still dominates the field today, and that many treat as scientific fact, is actually sloppy, unfounded, and untenable.

Has the Rabbi written about his opinion? (Or should we invite the Rabbi onto a podcast about it? 😉
