I’m considering beginning law studies in order to specialize in Hebrew law, a field that interests me very much.
But I came across your article (in Akdamot) that attacks the very existence of such a field of study and its integration into the legal system.
In your view, is it unnecessary and misguided to go into this field even from a research perspective? Do you have an idea for something else that would be more appropriate?
Answer
I have no problem at all with this field of research. The article speaks about a certain approach that sees Jewish law as a legal system and ignores several important distinctions. And of course my criticism is stated mainly with respect to integrating elements from Jewish law into Israeli law.

By the way, in principle there is also room for research in Hebrew law that would present precisely this point itself: that there is no such thing.
