Conservative
Question
Hello Rabbi,
Recently I happened to read a bit about Conservative Judaism, and I noticed that quite a few of their positions (at least the original ones) match your positions from recent years. Are you familiar with the Conservative approach? And if so, why don’t you consider yourself Conservative?
Answer
I agree. And it’s not just me. I’ve explained several times that there is no sharp difference between Conservatives and Orthodox Jews. I don’t deal in definitions and labels, but who told you how I consider myself?
Discussion on Answer
He won’t answer you that he really is, for reasons of livelihood.
Presumably, the Rabbi is known as Orthodox. If the Rabbi considers himself Conservative or somewhere on the seam between them (despite all the reservations about labels and so on), then by all means—let him tell us, and we’ll know.
