Question

I read your book “Man Is Like Grass.” But I did not understand your rejection of Zeitlin’s materialism, where he comments that it is clearer that spirit exists than matter, because it is through spirit that we think and approach matter. But he (and you following him) adds that no one has seen pure matter, just as no one has seen spirit. I do not understand this argument. After all, we do in fact see matter in its non-pure form much more clearly than spirit, and therefore it דווקא does seem that the existence of matter is clearer than the existence of spirit, or at the very least that both have the same level of (un)clarity regarding their existence. Seemingly, the only way to think otherwise is to fall into the madness of solipsism. (This is only a comment on that point; the very fact that we think by means of spirit sounds very well-founded to me as well.)
