Q&A: Family Punishment for Arabs
Family Punishment for Arabs
Question
Hello Rabbi,
Assuming that if a law were enacted under which any terrorist who carries out an attack would, the next day, have his entire family (say, his father, mother, brothers, and sisters) deported permanently from the territory of Israel and Judea and Samaria (even without any proof of connection to or support for his actions) — and that this would dramatically prevent attacks,
what is your principled view of such a law? I would also appreciate it if you could elaborate on its morality in terms of punishing another person, and whether you know of precedents for this.
If you have written about this in the past, or about something similar, I’d be glad if you could point me to it.
Thank you very much!
Answer
My basic position is that one may harm anyone necessary from the people fighting against me if this is needed for prevention and there is no other way. The root of the matter is in an article about Defensive Shield, and in many other places.
