Q&A: The Human Being as a Small World
The Human Being as a Small World
Question
Hi, what do you think about this idea that the human being is a kind of small-scale model of reality as a whole (divinity)?
This idea already appears in the words of the Sages, and was expanded in Kabbalah. I assume you know that there are also those who explained that the worlds of Emanation, Creation, and so on are basically just a reflection of our psyche—intellect, emotion, etc.
I’d be interested to hear your perspective on this.
Answer
The idea is too general for me to have an opinion about it. There is something to the claim that the kabbalistic concepts are a different description of the soul, but in Hasidism many see those concepts as merely another psychological language. I think that’s incorrect. It is a description of spiritual components of the world, and that structure is also reflected in the soul.
Discussion on Answer
I don’t know.
This description of the world makes sense in certain aspects of it. There are various phenomena that can be associated with kindness and judgment, formation and creation, and the like. It seems to me that I have a lecture series on Kabbalah. There’s also a series on mysticism.

Where can the lectures on Kabbalah be found?
I only found the ones on mysticism.
Thanks.
At the moment I only found audio lectures on tzimtzum. You can also search the site in the responsa section, columns, and more.
Unfortunately I still haven’t watched your series on Alphatonism, but from a bit of scrolling I understood that Plato also had a somewhat similar view of this.
My next question to you, if I may, is: what do you mean by spiritual components?
Are you speaking here about a certain mode of governance, for example, by which the Holy One, blessed be He, conducts His world? Like a kind of laws of physics, if one can compare them to that?
And sorry for going off-topic, but where can one get a physical copy of your book Two Carts and a Hot-Air Balloon? I can’t find it at Beit El…
