Q&A: What Is the Anger About
What Is the Anger About
Question
Many on the right are angry that humanitarian aid is being allowed into Gaza.
But at the end of the day, there is international law, and it says that starving a civilian population—even in cases where the enemy exploits it for its own survival—is absolutely forbidden. Israel is simply complying with the law. This is not even a case of surrendering to the terror of the hostages, but of implementing the accepted laws of war. So what exactly is the problem here?
Answer
I don’t understand the question. They’re angry that international law is being observed because, in their view, it’s a distorted law. Besides, many countries do not comply with that law when it doesn’t suit them, and certainly the Palestinians benefit from it while blatantly ignoring it.
