Q&A: Kosher Food
Kosher Food
Question
Hello Rabbi Michi,
Is it possible to eat at a non-kosher restaurant/pub, for example garlic bread or white rice? I assume you can’t eat cream pastas or meat, etc.
So the question is whether one can be lenient with foods that are pareve?
Or drinks such as beer or a cocktail?
Answer
You need to clarify, for each product, how it is prepared and what its ingredients are, and check this at the specific place in question. This is too general a question, and it’s better to direct it to people who specialize in kashrut. There are also guides online that may be helpful.
Discussion on Answer
It’s too general a question. Here is a sample guide:

I read it; unfortunately I still didn’t really find an answer, but I left them the same questions.
I’d be glad to hear what you would do in a situation where friends are going out to a non-kosher place, and you don’t feel comfortable refusing, but on the other hand you realize that you probably won’t be able to eat anything.
It really is too general a question, so you don’t have to answer.
I tried checking online, but I couldn’t find a clear answer.
If by any chance you know of a guide or website that talks about this, I’d be glad.
And regarding drinks—let’s say I only drink there—is it possible to drink from a glass cup?
