Question

An elderly man who knows a great deal of Kabbalah, although in the revealed areas he’s not exactly a great catch (even I, your humble servant, know much more than he does in the revealed areas, and that’s really not saying much…) told me last night during a visit to his home that spider webs are not good spiritually, that they symbolize… and especially that they bring forces of impurity into the house, etc.
And that one needs to invest effort, a lot of effort, to remove them…
How does the Rabbi relate to that?
In my opinion it shows that the house isn’t kept clean enough, and nothing more. Sometimes it’s better to have a mopped floor and washed dishes than spider webs up high…
But on the other hand, who knows what he knows that I still don’t know?
Good reasons not to take what he says seriously, despite his great knowledge:
1. He conducts himself, and apparently also learns, based on emotion and not intellect, in every area of life.
2. In the revealed areas, even I, your humble servant, know more.
3. In the hidden areas too, even in specific fields in which decades ago he was famous for his originality and depth of understanding—his name was really well known among those involved in the field—I spoke with him and was surprised that I know more. Apparently he forgot some of his learning, and when I reminded him of basic definitions he had no patience for the topic at all… (Strange, certainly for a man who made a name for himself in these subjects… but it is what it is. Maybe that’s common in old age?)
4. In terms of values or worldview, he has a manufacturing defect: he supports Netanyahu and has no principled problem with corruption as long as he is not directly harmed by it.

How would the Rabbi relate to his warnings?
 
If possible, please, a reasoned answer—it’s important to me.
