Q&A: Paratroopers or yeshiva placement
Paratroopers or yeshiva placement
Question
I would like to try to get into the Paratroopers, both because that brigade has the highest budget (in the division with the commando units), and because they do parachute jumps (which is cool), and also because my grandfather was in Battalion 202. Another relatively silly reason is that they have a patch and a beret in cool colors (the snake with the wings is really nice).
I am a hesder student (we start this coming Elul 1).
But on the other hand, I would be spending a year with my friends, and it feels like a shame not to serve with them.
My hesitation is really whether I would connect with them, since I’m a bit of a weird person, an outsider.
And in any case, some go to non-combat positions and won’t serve with anyone from the yeshiva, and some go to commanders’ course and split off after training, and there are a lot of variables.
So I also don’t know how many friends from the yeshiva I would actually serve with in practice.
What do you think about trying out for the Paratroopers and serving with people from other yeshivot?
Answer
I’m not a social adviser, so I don’t really have anything to say. Do whatever seems right to you.
