Gemara study methods in general – is there such a thing?

שו"תGemara study methods in general – is there such a thing?
שאל לפני 3 שנים

Your Honor,
I would be happy if you could contact me if you have written about this in the past in detail or if I may suggest that you write a long and explanatory article on the various teaching methods that exist in the commentators and later ones. For example – the difference between the Pfalpol method and the Brisk method. If you could bring a specific issue and see how the Pfalpol learns it and how the one who uses the Brisk method learns it.
And in general – define more what a "study method" is, because seemingly the differences are between people and how their minds work. No?
And further – is it correct to say that the Brisk method has gained popularity? If the Brisk method is what is commonly spoken of, then it is really a simple Western head of today. In other words, even if the method had not been created, it seems that the normal thinking of the reasonable person today is like this. No?
And further – can you point out a clear difference in thinking between the first and the last? Isn't it seemingly simple that the Rambam, for example, studied and "his head worked" precisely in the definitions of what is somehow appropriated as the "Brisk method"?
Thank you very much in advance!

Hello. I've been asked/requested several times. But this is a matter for a long study, and in my opinion not very interesting. It is clear that almost every school has something of every method, and the students generally recognize what is being discussed. Terms like "Pelpole" or "Brisk" themselves have several interpretations and several versions. I think a person should use their head and not follow one method or another. It is worth getting to know the space in order to use it in your studies. Adhering to a method and its characteristics are matters for academics who have nothing better to do. A characteristic point of one kind or another is indeed a matter that can be interesting, at least if the difference in question is significant and has implications. But general characterizations of methods seem to me to be really uninteresting and unhelpful.
