Haynes experiments

שו"תHaynes experiments
שאל לפני 3 שנים

Hello Rabbi
I wanted to know what the Rabbi thought about Haynes' experiments that showed that it was possible to predict whether a person would choose the right or left button, by looking at unconscious neural activity in two different areas of the brain that predicted whether the subjects were going to press the left or right button.
Moreover, he found that this activity occurred seven to ten seconds before the person made a conscious decision to press the given button.

I don't know what the Haynes experiments are. Maybe you mean Libet? I wrote about this at length in my books on the science of freedom, and I showed why they are not at all relevant to the discussion and even after all the improvements they will not be relevant. In addition, I wrote there that I think if they do a similar experiment on choosing in a place on picking (as Libet did) they will find that it is not possible to predict. A year after my book was published, a large-scale experiment was conducted and obtained exactly these results. There is a lecture by Liad Modrik about this:
