Let's say there is a religious mayor who is committed to Halacha.
And there is a decision about public transportation on Shabbat, and he approves and allows public transportation on Shabbat because this is his state concept.
Is he violating the halacha by doing so? Or in other words: Should the mayor ask his rabbi what the halacha says? Is there even a simple halacha on the subject?

I think it is definitely appropriate to ask. Even to understand whether this is a halakhic question, this is itself a halakhic issue. But in my opinion, it is not right to discuss this through the narrow halakhic prism. In other words, there is no clear answer here on a halakhic level. In my opinion, a mayor should act as everyone's mayor and allow everything, and everyone should decide whether they are violating Shabbat or not.
