Paying for a bus ride with a broken system

Greetings to Rabbi Michi,

I encountered a situation that I didn't know how to handle:
The payment system on the bus broke down, the driver let people in and said there was no way to pay.
Today there is an option to pay via an app, but it seems that most people currently pay with Rav Kav.
Question: Should I have paid with the app even though most of the world doesn't do that and people earned a free ride?
Most people have a smartphone so it can't be said that the payment system is inaccessible to them.
