Raising the soul of the deceased

Shalom Nathan. There are all sorts of customs that have developed around elevating the soul and healing, including the study of the Bible. In the Gemara, 16, it appears that a sitting was held at Hezekiah's grave out of respect for him. It does not say there that this elevating the soul for him. And the poskim wrote that if you do it so that the rights will be granted to the patient and not so that the study itself will cure, then perhaps it is permissible. And even then, it is not clear to me why the rights will be for the deceased/patient (and that it is possible to grant rights, or perhaps God, blessed be He, attributes this to his credit because thanks to him we learned more Torah. And it is clear that it should be a study that is done especially in his honor and not a study that is studied in this or that way). It seems to me that if you study something in this or that way and dedicate it to the credit of someone's healing, it has no meaning. If you add study in his credit, then there is some reason to believe that it will benefit him.
