Reason versus emotion

שו"תReason versus emotion
שאל לפני 3 שנים

Is it true to say that the mind is empty? It only shows data and what determines is the will – the soul? For example, if I place a glass of water in front of a person who has not drunk for several days and is about to die, the mind can only tell him: If you drink, you will continue to live (because the water will provide you with the substances you need), but everything depends on the will, and if he does not want to live, he will not drink.
Or not, and the mind is something of a watchdog – the intellectual power determines what is rationally correct, and there is another system of emotions… and as for the example above, the mind will also go one step further [and not only say that God will cause us to continue living] but will say that rationally living is good… but there is another system of emotions that also has a say [and a person can feel that there is no point in living].

You are not accurate. You mean to say that it is empty of values and norms and can only teach facts. But that is not true. First of all, facts are not learned from the mind but from observation. The mind only generalizes facts or makes analogies and the like. Beyond that, in my opinion, the mind also knows the values and not just the facts.
