Serving God with emotion

שו"תServing God with emotion
שאל לפני 3 שנים

I have read on this site several times that you claim that emotion has no value in itself, except only if it helps to make things easier for a person, unlike serving God with the mind, where you see the value in serving God. Ostensibly, if our goal is to connect with God, according to the words of the Ramchal, that God wants to benefit us and the wise decree that good can only come to those who have the good in them, and good is to be connected to God, who is the true good. So why assume that it comes only from the mind? I do think that knowing Him and His will is the central part, but why do I feel some special closeness or dependence on Him, blessed be He? This is not a value in itself, in your opinion?

First, if you assume that the goal is an emotional connection, then of course there is value in emotion. But that is the assumption being sought. I argued that emotions have no value, so Zen is probably not the goal either. As he wrote in Nefacha, unlike Hasidism, devotion is not an experience or emotion but a metaphysical state. Engaging in Torah is devotion to God (and not that it leads to devotion to God, according to the Hasids who interpret devotion as an experience or emotion), because we engage in His desires, and He and His will are one. His desires are intertwined with us and therefore we are connected to Him. This is an objective state, without any connection to the question of what we experience or feel. Litvak's devotion. In my discussions on emotion, I raised the possibility that we are tasked with an activity that will arouse emotion, but the value is the activity and the emotion is only its goal (because it is not in our hands). A person devoid of emotions (an organic defect in the brain). Do you think he has any problem in serving God? In my opinion, absolutely not. He is supposed to do the same things, but emotions will not arise in him because he does not have such a dimension. In my opinion, a person in such a situation does not have any value problem.
