Soul and body of God
Hello,
I teach classes in a synagogue on the history of the Israeli faith and we talked about how the God of the Bible has a body. The audience, of course, exclaimed, etc. The next point in the class is that the God of the Bible also has a soul, that is, a mental structure similar to ours (experiences time like us, loves, is angry, hates, seeks respect, cares what others think of him, etc.).
While most people cringe at the first claim, most of them live in harmony with the second.
From the perspective of medieval philosophy (Rambam, Rabbi Y. Albu), the proof that God does not have a body is that He is "simple" and not complex, and for the same reason He does not have a soul.
I asked in my request:
- Do you understand/agree with all the discussions that appear in medieval literature?
- If the answer to 1 is negative, do you understand the fundamental error of all Aristotelian/medieval scholasticism?
- Do you think God can have a body or a soul?

- Too general a question. I don't usually engage in this philosophical literature because in my opinion the arguments are very weak and are based on unfounded assumptions and failed conclusions.
- I don't know of a single fundamental error. As mentioned, the system there is based on a collection of assumptions that I don't know the basis for, and a large portion of them seem to me to be either incorrect or meaningless.
- In principle it can, but it probably doesn't have a body. As for soul, it depends on the definition. It is a spiritual entity and you can call it a soul.
