Tractate Sukkah

שו"תTractate Sukkah
שאל לפני 3 שנים

Rabbi Michi Shalom
The Tosafot in Tractate Sukkah, page 27, page 45, Rabbi Eliezer retracted it, bringing the Yerushalmi at the end. I didn't quite understand his wording and whether he disagreed with the Tosafots, and so he writes: "And in Yerushalmi, second, Rabbi Acha said that the mitzvah is important, meaning that initially one must eat in the Sukkah, and if one does not eat, one completes it on the eighth day."
What does it mean to be an important mitzvah, and does he disagree on the Tosafot and believe that even a meal on the first night of Yot can be completed on Shmini Atzeret?

It does not seem that he really disagrees, but rather with a nuance. The Torah says that the Rabbis did not retract from the fact that they have a meal, but rather from the fact that they have a sukkah. And the Yerushalmi is merely explaining the language of the baraita and saying that initially a sukkah is still needed. This is at least the same direction, even if not exactly the same thing.
